Recovery Training Institute

The Recovery Training Institute is an initiative of the Detroit Recovery Project Inc. Our institute prepares paraprofessionals interested in working with adolescents and transition aged youth, for implementation of effective motivational and cognitive behavioral interventions, mentorship, social and mental development, as well as to provide support with adopting a recovery lifestyle. Our interactive training certifies Peer Recovery Support Specialist by the Michigan Certification Board of Addiction Professional requirements and establishes a clear career pathway for participants to become eligible for associate and bachelor degree programs in Human Services. RTI offers its participants the readiness to apply for behavioral health employment and entry into human service fields. Our program completers are provided a 120-hour internship, placing them in aide positions within our prevention and early intervention services and substance use treatment programs, which serve transition aged youth. Our interns are guided by state-licensed behavioral health professionals who utilize interactive learning styles to educate them on risk management policies and protocols for vulnerable populations and working with adolescent development.

To encourage participants to further their education and increase the number of human service professionals working within youth development and behavioral health service provider organizations, RTI has partnered with Wayne County Community College and Oakland Community College to provide program completers assistance with the college application process, including support with college financing and study strategies.

Detroit Recovery Project Incorporated’s Recovery Training Institute is a Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training (BHWET) for paraprofessionals and professionals program.
